On 6th February 2022, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee. There will be celebrations all over the country to honour this remarkable milestone of 70 years on the throne. So, what can we do to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in Surrey?
Firstly, everyone will be pleased to welcome an extended bank holiday. May Bank holiday has been moved to create a four-day weekend. The dates of the long Bank Holiday weekend are Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June 2022. For those with children in Surrey, this comes at the end of the May half-term holiday.
So, what are your plans for the Platinum Jubilee? You may have already planned a street party or a Jubilee picnic. Or perhaps you’re going away to make the most of the long Bank Holiday weekend? Events in London to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee
If you’re close to the capital, you might want to join in some of the big Jubilee events taking place in London.
To celebrate the anniversary, Buckingham Palace is opening its doors to the public for its Platinum Party at the Palace. This epic concert will host some of the world’s biggest entertainers, as they perform their musical tributes to the Queen.
Another of the showcase events in London is the Platinum Jubilee Pageant, which will tell the story of the Queen’s long reign. Plus, on 2nd June the Trooping the Colour will take place in London, whilst beacons across the country are lit.
Dame Mary Berry will be judging the Platinum Pudding Competition, a national Jubilee event to bake the perfect pudding for the Queen. Plus, everyone is invited to plant trees as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative.
Events in Surrey to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee
All across the country towns and villages will be holding their own Jubilee celebrations and street parties, as part of the Big Jubilee Lunch. Luckily, Surrey is no exception. There’s going to be loads going on.
Most Surrey towns and villages are presenting their own agenda of special Jubilee celebrations. However, here are some of the other key events being held to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in Surrey:-
Jubilee Jazz in the Garden at RHS Wisley, Woking

One of the best ways to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee in Surrey is with an afternoon of jazz at Wisley. How very civilized!
Join us for Jazz in the Garden to celebrate our Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Bring a picnic or enjoy food from one of our many outlets, kick back and relax to the sounds of Chi Jazz. Playing smooth jazz, Chi Jazz will be performing in the garden from 12 – 3pm daily, 2–5 June.

Polesden Lacey's Platinum Jubilee Celebration, Dorking

Alternatively, you could celebrate at the National Trust’s Polesden Lacey with a 1950’s themed weekend.
Polesden Lacey is planning a 1950s themed Jubilee celebration that will run for the whole of the bank holiday weekend. With live music on the historic terrace from 1pm-3pm, the south lawn is the perfect place to sit with friends and family with a picnic and enjoy the stunning views across the valley.

Another place to enjoy a Jubilee picnic in Surrey is at Gatton Park.
Bring your own picnic to enjoy in front of Gatton Hall, or take your hamper to the lakeside or Japanese gardens. There will be commemorative events, including for children. Or simply enjoy a stroll in 260 acres of stunning ‘Capability’ Brown parkland. Cakes, refreshments and ices available to buy in Gatton Hall .

Jubilee Tea Dance, Egham

If you’re looking for a more traditional way to celebrate, you could try the Jubilee Tea Dance at Egham Museum.
A Jubilee Tea Dance will be held from 1-3pm downstairs in the institute to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Queen's Jubilee Beacon at St Ann's Hill, Chertsey

Jubilee beacons will be lit throughout the country to commemorate the Queen’s magnificent contribution to the country.
As part of the Jubilee celebrations in Surrey, the Mayor of Runnymede will light the beacon on St Ann’s Hill, Chertsey. The event will be accompanied with Morris dancers, live music and light refreshments.

Head to Claremont Gardens for a fun-filled half term week, and a weekend of celebrations for Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee.
At Claremont, we are celebrating this historic event with ‘Claremont’s Crown Quest’, a Jubilee Beacon (2nd June) and The Big Jubilee Lunch Garden Party (5th June).
Platinum Jubilee Party at Frimley Lodge Park

If you’re looking for somewhere to take the kids during the half-term, you’ll find plenty of family-friendly Jubilee activities at Frimley Lodge Park.
The day will be a fun day and evening entertainment will take place from 5pm onwards. There will be stalls and rides during the day and live music and entertainment in the evening.
This event will take place on 2 June 12pm-10pm at Frimley Lodge Park. There is no entrance fee, but a charge of £5 per car.
A Jubilee picnic at Guildford Castle

Join in a free family Jubilee event with a picnic in the grounds of Guildford Castle.
Come along and bring a picnic and enjoy music and entertainment with Guildford Fringe Festival from the Bandstand between 12 noon and 4pm. Tea, Coffee and Cakes will be available from Castle Green Bowls Club and you can also have a go at bowls on the green. The Keep Pub will provide the Pimm’s Tent.
The Cazoo Derby at Epsom Downs

One of the key Jubilee events in the Surrey calendar is the Cazoo Derby Day at Epsom.
In 2022, Cazoo Derby Day will also stage an official commemoration of Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The monarch will mark the occasion by attending The Derby with members of the Royal Family.

Events in Windsor to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee
A Gallop through History, Windsor
- Dates: 12th – 15th May 2022

One of the showcase events in Windsor to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee will be A Gallop through History.
This celebration will see more than 500 horses and 1000 performers create a 90-minute piece of spellbinding arena theatre. The show will include actors and artists, musicians, international military displays, dancers and global equestrian displays.
This spectacle will take place in the grounds of the Queen’s home, Windsor Castle.
