Spectacular Christmas light trails in Berkshire and nearby 2026

Looking for the best Christmas light trails in Berkshire in 2026?  We’ve rounded up some of the most magical illuminated trails in Berkshire and nearby, including many that we’ve visited ourselves.

There’s nothing quite like wrapping up warm and heading out to see thousands of twinkling lights to get you in the festive spirit.  Add a hot chocolate or your first mulled wine of the season and it really does feel like the countdown to Christmas has begun.

From illuminated woodland walks to spectacular gardens filled with colour and light, there are some fantastic Christmas lights in Berkshire this year.  And if you’re happy to venture a little further, you’ll find even more Christmas light trails near Berkshire, in Surrey, Hampshire, and London.

Whether you’re planning a family evening out, a festive date night or just soaking up the Christmas atmosphere, here are some of our favourites for Christmas 2026.

One of our all-time favourite Christmas light trails in Berkshire is at Windsor Great Park Illuminated, which returns from 13th November 2026 to 3rd January 2026.  Each year, the projections and installations seem to become even more imaginative.

As you wander through the woods, look out for woodland creatures brought to life with light and sound, spectacular projections, and beautiful reflections across the water.  There are stops for festive food and fire pits to melt your marshmallows.

Along the way, there are several stops for hot drinks and snacks, and the trail finishes with a number of fairground rides, making it a perfect Christmas family event for all ages.

Spectacle of Light at Welford Park in Newbury returns with an Alice in Wonderland theme for 2026.

Follow the White Rabbit through the illuminated gardens and woodlands, with familiar characters including the Mad Hatter, Cheshire Cat and Queen of Hearts appearing along the way.  There will also be hot chocolate, marshmallow toasting, a Food Village, and Tipi Bar.

The dog-friendly trail runs on selected evenings from 16th October to 7th November 2026, making it one of the earliest Christmas light trails in Berkshire this year.

A newcomer to Berkshire’s Christmas light trail scene, Illuminate Reading made its debut at Forbury Gardens and the Abbey Ruins last winter.

The 30-50 minute illuminated trail transformed the historic gardens and ruins with colourful light installations, with festive food and marshmallow toasting.

Illuminate Reading will return for 2026, but the dates are yet to be released.

Although we’ve not yet been, Christmas at Kew remains one of the biggest festive light trails within easy reach of Berkshire.

The trail returns from 13th November 2026 to 3rd January 2027, with an approximately 3km route featuring huge light installations, sparkling tunnels, immersive soundscapes and new artworks.

There’s plenty of traditional Christmas atmosphere too, with Father Christmas, a fairground, festive street food and warm drinks.

They are also introducing adult-only evenings for 2026 (on 3rd and 9th December).

If you don’t mind travelling over the Berkshire border, a visit to Glow at RHS Wisley, is a wonderful way to kick start the festive season.  Glow is one of the best-known Christmas light trails in Surrey. We went last year and absolutely loved it.

For 2026, there’s an updated route with seven brand-new installations and two new light shows, combining light and some of Wisley’s best known landscapes.

Follow the illuminated pathways through the gardens, where trees, plants and water are transformed by colour and light.

Just across the Berkshire borders, West Green House in Hampshire is returning with a completely new them for Christmas 2026.

The kilometre-long Once Upon a Time Illuminated Trail, leads through the gardens and around the lakes, bringing favourite fairy tales to life.  Look out for characters inspired by The Frog Prince, Hansel & Gretel and More.

You can enjoy listening to the choir and little children will enjoy petting animals.

If you don’t mind travelling a bit further from Berkshire, I can highly recommend a visit to Leonardslee Lights.  Last year this was one of the highlights of our festive season, so we’re pleased to see it returning for 2026.

This year, A Midwinter Light’s Dream: A Garden Awakening follows and extended, reimagined route through Leonardslee’s beautiful woodland gardens.  The experience combines light, sound and liver performance.

There’s also an expanded Leonardslee Village, where you can warm up with festive food, mulled wine, toast marshmallows around the firepits and enjoy live entertainment before or after the trail.

Christmas at Legoland® Windsor runs on selected dates from 21st November 2026 to 2nd January 2027.  The resort becomes a Christmas-themed Winter Wonderland with twinkling lights, the giant DUPLO® Christmas tree, festive shows, LEGO Santa and more than 20 rides and attractions.

It’s not a traditional Christmas light trail, but it’s a fun alternative for families with younger children who want a full festive day out.

For something a little different, head to Newbury for its annual Festival of Light.

Rather than a traditional Christmas Light Trail, this free community event sees a sparkling procession of handmade lanterns travel through Newbury town centre, accompanied by live music.

The Festival of Light takes place on Sunday 13th December 2026, with the procession setting off at 4.30pm from Northbrook Street before arriving at the Market Place.
