“Sin City” is renowned as the epicentre for adult fun, so two days in Las Vegas with kids doesn’t seem the obvious family destination. However, we took our children at the start of our California Road Trip and had a great time.
In fact, two days in Las Vegas is only just enough time to take in all the top family attractions that Vegas has to offer. In this travel guide we share what we got up to and help you discover that there are plenty of things for kids to do and see in Vegas.

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas
This may be true for the many stag-do revellers, but we are very happy to share: –
Laze on the River
With a lazy river, 4 pools and 3 whirlpools, the MGM Grand Hotel, Vegas seemed like the perfect hotel to start our road trip.
After a tiring flight, we headed straight to the extensive pool complex. It was certainly big and also very busy. Friday afternoon is definitely the time for the Vegas party to start!
Top Tip – Go to the pool with your family in the morning, as it’s quieter whilst the Vegas party crowd sleep the night before off!

Walk the Strip
Vegas is famous for the iconic Strip. We walked the strip during the day and loved the atmosphere of this world-famous street.
Working our way along the extravagant Vegas hotels, the kids loved all the wonderful sights each had to offer. Every Vegas hotel has its own unique theme, so there is plenty to entertain kids. In fact, you can tour the world, without even leaving town!
The Fountain Show at the Bellagio
The water show at The Fountains of Bellagio is a magnificent Vegas sight for visitors of any age. This spectacle displays over 100 jets shooting water 460 feet into the air in time to music.
It is absolutely mesmerising and a must-see Vegas show, both in the day (every ½ hour) and in the evening (every 15 mins). Even better, it’s free to watch.
A taste of Italy in Vegas
You can get a real feel of Italy if you head for Little Venice at the Venetian. The gondolas look so authentic, as they wind their way under the ornate bridges spanning the Grand Canal.
The Volcano at the Mirage
The Mirage has its own Volcano Show, which is absolutely fascinating. It involves a man-made volcano erupting with fire, smoke and lava to the sound of rock and roll. What’s not to like?
It’s on every night at 8, 9 and 10pm. It’s worth arriving early to get a good spot on the South side.
Eating the Big Apple
At the New York New York you will feel like you’ve been teleported from Las Vegas to Manhattan. It has tree-lined, cobblestone streets offering vibrant New York style eateries. Of course, there is also the famous Big Apple roller coaster, which whizzes by above your head.
Walk like an Egyptian
The Luxor is located inside one of the largest pyramids in the world. You cannot fail to admire the grandeur of this magnificent hotel.
Everywhere you look there are statues, palm trees and sphynxes. We had a real feel of what it might have been like to live in Ancient Egypt. There is also a wide array of eateries and show areas.
When in Rome…
We took a trip back to Ancient Rome, by visiting Caesar’s Palace, the first themed resort in Las Vegas. It is a grand, opulent hotel, styled upon the times of the Roman Empire.
Allow time for the animatronic show “Fall of Atlantis” which runs every hour and is very impressive. It tells the story of King Atlas and his fight for control of Atlantis . It is a memorable experience of water, fire and giant talking statues.
Eat like a king
Two days in Las Vegas gave us plenty of time to take in a show. There are adult-only shows everywhere in Vegas, but also lots for children. Some of the most popular are David Copperfield, The Cirque du Soleil and Jabbaqockeez.
On our return day to Vegas, we stayed at the family-friendly Excalibur Hotel. In the evening, we went out to see the “Tournament of Kings”. This is a knight themed, live action show, based on the tales of King Arthur. It’s a superb family night out.
You’ll see plenty of action as knights on horses ride in amongst special effects and pyrotechnics. Everyone shouts lots, as they cheer on their chosen country to win. Of course, you have to eat your dinner medieval style – with your hands!

Word of warning - It takes all sorts…
Although we felt safe wandering around for 2 days in Las Vegas with our children, they saw some eye-opening sights, especially after dark.
Avoid the Vegas street entertainers, dressed as Disney Princesses, showgirls or superheroes. They are super friendly until a photo is taken, when they will demand big dollars for the privilege.
Leaving Las Vegas
If you need a break from the bright lights and make-believe of Las Vegas, head out to the Hoover Dam. This stunning feat of engineering is just 30 miles East of Las Vegas. We went there on our way from Vegas to the Grand Canyon and found it very impressive.
Top Tip: Be ready for the heat. It was absolutely stifling after the air-conditioned city, so make sure you have lots of water. There are drinking fountains on the dam, where you can refill your bottles.
