The story

Unlike a traditional musical, The Choir of Man doesn’t follow a structured storyline.  Instead, it invites you into The Jungle, a fictional British pub where a group of men gather to sing, laugh, share stories, and celebrate a sense of community.

The Poet, as the narrator, guides the audience through the evening, introducing each of the pub’s regulars and giving glimpses into their lives.  It’s heartfelt and funny at the same time, touching on themes of friendship, belonging, and men’s mental health.

But really, the show is all about the music.  Expect everything from Queen to Sia, The Proclaimers, Adele, and even Luther Vandross, all sung with amazing harmonies and infectious energy.

The cast & performances

The cast of nine are great, each one bringing their own personality and talent to the stage.

  • The Poet holds the show together with humour and sincerity.
  • The Handyman delivers an incredible tap routine that had me wishing I’d never given up my childhood lessons.
  • The Beast serenades an audience member with a touching acoustic moment.
  • The Maestro makes 500 Miles his own.
  • The Joker, The Romantic, The Bore, and the rest of the gang each bring their own unique talents.

Immersive pub fun

Part of the magic of The Choir of Man is how immersive it is.  Before the show even begins, audience members can go up on stage to grab a drink from the bar.  Throughout the performance, the cast hand out pints, toss crisps and bar mats into the crowd, and invites more guests onto the stage.  One of the highlights is how much the cast seem to genuinely like performing together.  The camaraderie is infectious, letting you believe you really are in the pub with them.

Our Review

We absolutely loved The Choir of Man. It’s joyful, heartfelt, and packed with songs you’ll want to sing along to. The harmonies are stunning, the choreography is energetic, and the humour is spot on.

But what really makes the show special is its message.  Beneath the laughter and the pints is a gentle reminder of how important community spaces are, especially for men who might not always feel able to open up.

The New Wimbledon Theatre is a beautiful, old theatre and a fantastic venue for this production.

A special Wimbledon surprise

As this was Gala Night, we were treated to a special moment at the end of the show.  Two local Wimbledon‑based choirs, who had been seated throughout the theatre were invited to join the cast in a surprise finale. They had stunning voices and it was hard to believe they’d never sung together before.  It was the ideal ending to an already uplifting evening.

If you’re looking for a night out that’s full of warmth, humour, and brilliant music, The Choir of Man is a fantastic choice.  Raise a glass, join the chorus, and enjoy one of the most feel‑good shows on tour right now.
