The Snow White Panto in Woking is officially here – oh no it isn’t!  Oh yes it is!

Yesterday we were invited* to the press night of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at the New Victoria Theatre, Woking and it well and truly kicked off our festive season.

We’ve been going to the Woking pantomime since the boys were tiny, and it’s always one of our Christmas highlights.  This year sees the return of the classic fairytale, Snow White, and it didn’t disappoint.

*We were gifted our tickets for the Snow White panto in Woking, but all opinions are my own.

Snow White at New Victoria Theatre Woking - our review

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs follows the story of the much-loved Brothers Grimm classic fairytale, but with all the sparkle, silliness and magic you’d expect from a panto.  You’ve got a beautiful princess, a charming prince, a fabulously wicked stepmother, and of course, seven brilliantly talented dwarfs.  Add in colourful costumes, high-energy dancing and plenty of cheesy jokes, and you’ve got the perfect family night out.

The show opens at Snow White’s birthday party, where she instantly falls for the handsome Prince William.  But their plans for happily-ever-after are quickly interrupted by the Evil Queen’s discovery that she’s no longer “the fairest in the Land.”

The cast

Of course, every pantomime needs a big, bad villain and Lesley Joseph, star of the sitcom “Birds of a Feather” is an absolutely fabulous Wicked Queen Dragonella.  She’s energetic, wickedly funny and clearly having fun. She stole the show for us with her stunning performance.

She’s joined by Rob Rinder as the gloriously camp Man in the Mirror, who judges who truly is the fairest of them all.   He brings great charisma, sharp timing and one or two surprises.

Briana Craig is a sweet, warm Snow White, and Scott Maurice, plays a strong Prince William, with great vocals and some top dance moves.  In the woods, we meet the Magnificent Seven, a talented group of performers who do their best to protect the princess.

Holding everything together is Muddles the Jester, played by Aaron James, whose non-stop jokes and wonderfully silly humour had the audience in stitches.

As regular visitors to Woking Theatre, we loved seeing some of the much-loved classic routines make an appearance.  The Twelve Days of Christmas was as funny as ever, with toilet rolls flying into the audience.  And who can resist a good tongue-twister with a rude twist?!

Costumes, set and special effects

As always at Woking Theatre, the production quality was first class.  The costumes were colourful and lavish, the set changes were seamless, and the big special effect of the night – a flying motorbike, ridden by Rob Rinder over the heads of the audience.

Overall, this year’s Snow White panto in Woking is full of energy and packed with laughs for all ages.  There’s just the right amount of adult humour (that flew straight over the kids’ heads) balanced with plenty of silliness for little ones.

It was a great festive family outing and a brilliant way to get in to the Christmas spirit.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is running at the New Victoria Theatre, Woking until 4th January.  The show lasts around two hours with a short interval, finishing around 9pm, which is ideal for families with younger children.
